Puri (PYOOR-ee) is a nearly unique sight on Tela in that she is a real, live cartoon character living amongst the regular anthropomorphic animal people of the world, with Ruby being her only counterpart. Puri's body is extremely resilient and capable of uncanny feats of flexibility that would be impossible for any of her fellow Telans. Despite being a "toon," she is not affected by ink or other artistic media (a la Who Framed Roger Rabbit).

She is also a real-life magical girl — another quality that is unheard of in her otherwise normal modern world — capable of casting powerful spells with her wand in order to protect the citizens of the metropolitan city of Convale where she lives. This wand was a gift from parts unknown and is bound to her, making it unusable by anyone else, and can be summoned to her hand from anywhere. She doesn't need to speak any incantations to cast spells, but yelling their names gives dramatic effect, and dramatic effect counts for a lot. Her offensive magic is generally star-themed or otherwise related to space, manifesting in ways such as light beams, flames, or even meteors. She is also capable of a wide variety of other general-purpose magic, including flight, telekinesis, and limited teleportation. This magic power comes in handy, as monsters colloquially referred to as "anomalies" — horrible creatures of various shapes and sizes composed of an unnatural black ooze — regularly cross through dimensions to terrorize the populace of Convale. The city is also home to your typical criminals and other slightly less typical villains, which Puri helps to clean up when there's nothing more dangerous going on. Her abilities are largely governed by her own stamina; peppering a monster takes next to no effort, but something like teleporting a large object long distances will quickly tire her out and limit her fighting ability.

Puri works as a free agent for the Trinity Division, an agency specifically set up to detect and fight back against anomalies whenever they appear — which oddly enough seems to be exclusively in the limits of Convale. Trinity has done some basic physical tests on Puri with her permission, but the reasons for her unusual appearance and abilities remain unknown to them. She is referred to by the designation "Shooting Star" on all official documents and communications and holds the rank of Commander, though this title is primarily to allow her to give official orders when necessary (not that any among the ranks would dare to disobey regardless), as she is virtually impossible for anyone above her to regulate. She frequently clashes with the division's Director over some of his decisions, but the two cooperate knowing that they share the same goal: protecting the people of the city — and by extension, all of Tela. She is particularly close to Aster, Trinity's robot AI that runs dispatch, and likes to flirt playfully with her when she calls.

Whether or not Puri and Ruby work together depends on the severity of the issue. Being less experienced, Ruby learns a lot of things from Puri, and Puri is happy to teach. The two are extremely close.

Puri holds the safety of the innocent above all else, and will do anything in her power to protect them, even if it means risking her own health. She uses her empathic powers — being able to sense and feed off the emotions of others — to detect when there's trouble nearby by sensing the victim's distress. This also means that she can derive a great deal of enjoyment out of other people's happiness, or be sent into a vengeance-fueled rage if someone is harshly wounded or worse. If someone's terror is strong enough, or is from someone Puri deeply cares for, she may lose control and go completely berserk. This tends to have dire consequences for those responsible and is something Puri prefers not to talk about.

Puri having just completed her magical girl transformation, radiating with light. Her outfit has been replaced with a white dress trimmed with translucent sparkling material and a small blue bow is affixed below her ear. Two bracelets resembling the blue rings on her wand have appeared around her wrists, with which she is striking a dramatic pose. The ground fizzles with energy.
Radiant Puri

When things looks bleak, Puri takes on her Radiant form, trading her familiar sailor suit for a more flashy dress. In this form her wand also transforms into twin bracelets, allowing her to do magic with her hands free. She is even more powerful like this, but it also burns through her energy much faster, tiring her out if the problem isn't resolved quickly. In the event Puri needs to unleash the height of her power, her bracelets revert to wand form to become the handle of Nova, a star-shaped blade of raw cosmic energy.

When there aren't more pressing matters to attend to, Puri likes to lounge around and play video games or watch movies, or use her powers for mischief, entertainment, and pleasure. She enjoys teasing others, but also knows when to stop. Despite her usual smug and cocky attitude she has a kind heart, and will avoid doing anything that could truly hurt someone, be it physically or emotionally.
